Architectural Woodwork Institute-Georgia to sponsor WoodLINKS USA

Reblogged from Custom cabinetry trends:

The Architectural Woodwork Institute’s Georgia chapter has recently decided to dissolve as a result of declining membership in difficult economic times, and will use the remainder of its money to support the WoodLINKS USA student woodworking program. AWI-Georgia’s remaining funds will go toward paying state license fees for up to six schools in that state, and to pay for teachers to attend the International Woodworking Fair in Atlanta.

Featured Project Friday

The featured project of the day are these ceiling panels constructed by Western Dental. They are made with our Foamkore product. Foamkore consists of a balanced constructed foamboard that provides a structural composite panel with greatly reduced weight. It has a polystyrene foam core and a thin face material such as hardboard, fiberboard, luan plywood, poplar plywood, or birch plywood.

Some facts about our Foamkore product:

  • Foamkore provides up to an 80% weight reduction when compared to conventional panels of plywood, particle board, and MDF.
  • The stable panel provides the ability to apply a variety of edging options including: edge insert, outer edge band, and conventional edge banding.
  • The balance panel allows for a variety of face materials to be added such as: veneer, laminates, paper, graphics, and other thin materials.
  • Foamkore panels are available in a nominal panel size of 4’x8’. Panels are available in thicknesses from 3/4” up to 3”. Optional custom sizes, thickness, and face options are available upon request.
  • Product applications include: shelving, partitions, ceiling panels, wall systems, signage, displays, theatre props, swing doors, elevators, kiosks, tabletops, furniture, cabinets, motor homes, and boats.

Anywhere you want to reduce weight whether it be ceiling panels, wall panels, signs, etc, you can use our Foamkore product. We also have Foamkore-Green, a Kerfed Foamkore-Green if you want to add a curve, and Foamkore Fire-Rated.

Featured Project Friday

With Kerfkore Company’s bendable products,  you can make anything where you need to add a curve. This arch was made with our Kerfkore product.
Kerfkore is a revolutionary substrate material that allows horizontal or vertical grade laminates, metals, 2-ply and phenolic backed veneers to be laminated flat and then formed into virtually any shape without stress cracks, delamination or telegraphing. Kerfkore provides for smooth and symmetrical inside and outside radii up to 3 1/2”. Kerfkore saves time and improves quality by laminating flat and sanding flat prior to bending. It is dimensionally stable and holds its shape when formed with a series of horizontal ribs. Because of Kerfkore’s unique construction, excess material can be used on other projects virtually eliminating scrap.
